Planning a Trip to Turks and Caicos
Planning a trip to Turks and Caicos can start out a little scary. Some people start looking at prices and rooms and automatically think “we cannot afford to go there.” I get that response a lot actually. My answer – you must know where to look. Not all hotels are crazy expensive in Grace Bay. Going to Turks and Caicos on a budget is completely possible.
Now starts the time when many people start planning their summer vacations – me included. When we are planning a trip to Turks and Caicos, we usually book our room and flights around three months out. We are traveling to Turks and Caicos in June; therefore, we have started looking and will book everything at the beginning of March.
Real quick – a funny story – My husband’s aunt and her family are thinking about going to Turks and Caicos this year. They have started to look at rooms and see what their options are. I get a text from her one night that that says they found somewhere…she went on to tell me it was at The Palms and it was only $2300 (and something) for four people (including plane tickets) and for six nights.
My response – WOW – that’s a great deal but that’s not right. I knew The Palms was much more expensive than that but I was like hey..maybe I need to book real fast if that’s the price. So, I hopped online and immediately saw that the $2300 (and something) was for ONE night (which is what I expected). About that time I texted her back she was texting me as well to tell me it was for one night.
My point..there are some pretty expensive places to stay in Turks and Caicos that the average person may not be able to afford. But, there are some pretty normal priced places to stay that are affordable for most budgets. Do not let $2300 per night for four people scare you..just keep looking..oh wait..that is what I am here for!
Hotels in Turks and Caicos
Hotels in Turks and Caicos can range anywhere from $150 per night to $1000 per night and more. We prefer to stay in the Grace Bay area because in my opinion (and lots of others as well) these are the best beaches on the island. We are pretty much all there for the beach, so, we want to stay on the prettiest one…right?
I am going to make your vacation planning a little easier. Traveling on a budget to Turks and Caicos does not have to be bad or scary or out of reach. I have gathered information for what I think are the best hotels when traveling on a budget. Each of these properties are on Grace Bay Beach.
Hotels Under $250 Per Night
Sibonne Beach Hotel
I am starting off with Sibonne Beach Hotel. This hotel comes in at only about $150 per night. At $150 per night, I would say this is a pretty good value. Let me just say, you pay for what you get. With Sibonne Beach Hotel you are not going to get 5 star rooms that are luxurious and have nice private balconies. You are not paying $150 per night and getting the best of the best with a butler on top.
Instead, you are paying $150 per night and getting a nice, clean, room. You are getting a nice, quiet hotel that is located DIRECTLY on Grace Bay. I mean, we are all there for the beach, right?
Not only are you getting a location that is directly on Grace Bay, but you are getting a location that has one of our favorite restaurants on site – Bay Bistro.
So, remember, this hotel is not the Ritz, but it is a great value for someone on a strict budget. It is a great hotel for someone who’s main focus and reason for going to Turks and Caicos is the GRACE BAY BEACH.
Coral Gardens is a quaint, boutique style hotel. You have the option of renting a one, two, or three bedroom condo. Inside the rooms you have fully equipped kitchens.
There are two pools on site and complimentary chaise lounges and beach towels.
The one thing we love about this place – SOMEWHERE CAFÉ. Somewhere Café is one of our favorite casual dining spots on the island. We visit this restaurant at least 2-3 times each trip.
So, again, you are getting a pretty small little place that is clean, quiet, and nice at a good rate.
Ocean Club Resorts
These resorts come in at $194 for Ocean Club and $202 for Ocean Club West. The great thing about each of these resorts is that if you stay at one, you get to “play” at both. These resorts are larger and feature more accommodations and more amenities. You can rent anything from a studio up to a three bedroom suite.
Each of these resorts are located directly on Grace Bay. You have a couple of pools to choose from if you prefer lying by the pool. You also have a variety of restaurants on site including Solana, Opus, and Cabana Bar and Grill. Opus (by the way) is another one of our favorite restaurants on the island.
Royal West Indies
Royal West Indies is the highest on the list at $208 per night. Royal West Indies is of course directly on Grace Bay. It has beautiful landscaping around the property and at the pools. It does have two pools and a hot tub. The rooms and clean and spacious and come with either kitchenettes or full kitchens.
There are complimentary beach chairs and towels for your use at the beach. Also, there is a restaurant on site that has GREAT drink specials and a great lunch. This resort is not as large as the Ocean Club resorts but not as small as Sibonne Beach Hotel. It is not 5 star but it is updated and has nice things to offer.
We spent a lot of time at this resort as this is where we stayed when hurricane Joaquin hit. We became very well acquainted with our rooms and the resort during the hurricane. I mean, there is not a lot to do when on an island and a hurricane is coming. So, you end up spending lots of time at the resort.
Turks and Caicos on a Budget
Going to Turks and Caicos on a budget is completely possible. Let’s face it – no matter how big or small or have many stars each resort has – they all have one thing in common – GRACE BAY BEACH. Each of these hotels is situated directly on Grace Bay. So, no matter what your room looks like, you are enjoying the same beautiful beach as everyone else.
Some prefer really nice rooms and for some people that is not important. I mean, you are not in your room that often. It really just comes down to budget and what you are willing to spend. I vary on the types of rooms that I choose. My motto is that if you are going for a special event like a honeymoon – stay somewhere super luxurious and nice.
If you are going on a yearly trip that happens all the time – go a little cheaper. We like to stay in moderately priced places so that we can travel more frequently. If we stayed in high end places every time, then we would have to limit how often we go.
So, when booking a trip look at the pros and cons of each hotel. There are people that go year after year and stay in these same resorts over and over again because they love them so much. Each of the resorts listed have pros and cons and special things about them.
I hope I have helped you in choosing the perfect hotel for your budget. Remember, Turks and Caicos on a budget is doable. You just have to know where to look.
