Smile Love at Home Teeth Aligners
When I was in college I asked my parents if I could get braces. They said yes, so my dad and I went to the orthodontist. The orthodontist explained that he would not put braces on me unless I had my wisdom teeth removed first. Therefore, my parents set up an appointment with an oral surgeon to get my wisdom teeth removed. This is where everything went wrong!! My dad and I went to my appointment with the oral surgeon.
The doctor asked me why I was wanting my teeth removed, are they bothering me, ect. When I explained to him that it was because I wanted to get braces he said, “oh your teeth look good you do not need braces.” Needless to say…we left the appointment and my dad said we will get the teeth cut out but no braces. He was like…if the doctor says your teeth look good then I do not see the point in paying for braces!!!
I was soo mad that day…like why did the surgeon have to say that. So, needless to say…I got my wisdom teeth cut out and no braces. Fast forward to the first year of marriage…my local dentist said he had some “generic” type braces for a good price that I could do. I agreed. I told him to not worry about any of the problems other than my front four teeth. He did just that and pretty much fixed what I asked for.
Since then, I have been wearing a retainer at least 2 nights per week. I often complain about my teeth and people will say, “oh they are fine…what is wrong with them.” I’ve never had those “perfect” type teeth that I have always wanted. I thought that fixing just the “front four” would cure the dislike that I had for my teeth…but it did NOT.
Getting Started with Smile Love
Almost 9 years later I start to see all of these “straighten your teeth at home” commercials. They advertised you could straighten your teeth at home for half the price. After seeing these commercials…I certainly became curious. So, I started to research “at home teeth straightening.” I contacted a few companies before contacting Smile Love. I can’t say that I had bad customer service from the other companies, but I will say that at had better customer service with Smile Love. Then, after comparing a few, I decided to go with Smile Love.
I am so HAPPY that I get to partner with Smile Love for my at home teeth straightening journey!! I cannot wait to see the finished product – MY TEETH.
Smile Love Process
Once you decide to move forward, you will start by ordering your impression kit. The impression kit is $95. If they cannot help you, you will get your money back. It is a win-win situation.
So, I ordered my kit and it arrived in just under two weeks.
The kit comes with everything you need for creating your impressions. Oh, and a step by step guide is included.
As you can see in the image, you will get orange putty like stuff – this is for practicing. The blue and white is what you will use to make the actual impressions to send back for evaluation. The trays will be used for both practice and final product.
In my box, you see both green and yellow trays. The green is smaller than the yellow. I thought that I would need the smaller trays, but was not positive so they sent both so that I did not have to waste any time in case they did not fit.
As suspected, I did in fact need the smaller, green trays.
I cannot stress this enough. Practicing with the orange putty is SO IMPORTANT. Making these molds are a little more difficult than you might think. I mean, it is NOT hard, but you need to practice in order to know exactly how much pressure to put, how to place your teeth in the center, all those good things to make sure your molds are perfect.
You will roll the orange putty into a hot dog type shape. Next, you bend it and lay it into the tray. Then, you will press it down to fill in the tray. From there, you will place the tray in your mouth and up to your teeth. Make sure you give your self plenty of room around the entire rim of the tray. You do not want to be too close to any of the edges. Also, do NOT bite down. Use your fingers to press up.
Like I said, practicing lets you know how far to push the tray up without breaking through and exactly where to place it so that you are in the center and not on any edges.
I will admit that I practiced several times before getting it exactly how I thought it needed to be.
Once you have practiced and are ready to make your final impressions, you will mix one blue and one white together until the mixture is blue. You should not still see white in the mixture. Also, mix fast. Once mixed, you will follow the same procedure as with the practice putty. Roll it into a hot dog shape, bend and put into tray, press down to spread into tray, and then make the mold. Again, do NOT bite down. Use your teeth to gently press the tray onto your teeth.
This is where things became a slobbery mess for me. When I had the tray where I felt it needed to go, I literally started slobbering so much that is was rolling down my face – I know – that is gross – but that is what happened. Gosh it seems like forever before you can remove the impressions but you must keep them in the for amount of time given in the instructions.
As you can see, my first impressions were pretty terrible looking. I felt like the putty was just spreading out all in my mouth and that is kind of what it looks like as well. I will be honest that after seeing my first set I was like “whoa, not sure they are going to accept these.” You will have to do two sets of impressions. Luckily, my second set came out almost perfect despite me doing nothing different.
After you finish the impressions, you will still need to take pictures of your teeth with the big clear things in your mouth. This helps them to get a good look at your teeth. These things are uncomfortable but do not hurt. My husband took these pictures for me and he found them to be quite funny. I actually had to remove them several times because he was laughing and therefore making me laugh.
When you have taken the pictures, you will send them to Smile Love for review.
You will leave the impressions in the trays and put them in the box and mail back to Smile Love. It took about a week for me to het my treatment preview. Once you get your treatment preview you can decide to either pay the entire amount all at once or setup a monthly payment. I will also just say Smile Love at home teeth aligners are WAY cheaper than the traditional clear aligners that you get at a traditional orthodontist. When I say cheaper…I mean like at least half off plus some.
After moving forward, it takes about two weeks for them to send all of your aligners.
Smile Love Journey
As you can see, Smile Love at home teeth aligners is a process. It is not just an overnight thing. Therefore, if you want to do it, go ahead and get started. You will not get your aligners over night and start immediately. It is quick, but not immediate. As with any braces, you have to get impressions made. You will then send them in for review and wait for approval. Once paid, it will take another couple of weeks to get back to you so that you can actually start.
I feel as though everything in the process has gone quite smoothly and I am beyond pleased so far with everything. Oh, did I mention that you can text Smile Love along the way if you have questions!?! Being able to text has been super easy and convenient.
I will have many blog posts about my Smile Love journey. But, as you would expect, I wanted to start at the beginning and break each post into steps. Next time I will go over the actual aligners and that process.
