Dinner at Coco Bistro
Coco Bistro in Turks and Caicos is our favorite restaurant in the world – literally. We have visited many places and tried many restaurants and nothing so far has exceeded Coco Bistro. Yes, there are many places that we have visited that have awesome food. I think what makes Coco Bistro a notch above the rest is the package that they offer. Great Food + Great Atmosphere + Great Service = The Best.
On our very first trip to Turks and Caicos we were told that we must go to Coco Bistro. We made reservations and saved it for our last night. I remember the taxi dropping us off and the two of us walking inside. We immediately fell in love. The atmosphere of this place is just amazing and beautiful. It grabs your attention immediately.
We still get that same feeling and we still save it for the last night. But, we not only go on our last night but at least one to two other times as well. We cannot fit all of our favorite dishes into just one night.
Coco Bistro in Turks and Caicos
Coco Bistro in Turks and Caicos is located right in the center of the Grace Bay area. You can walk here depending on where you are staying. If you stay on the end of the island near Grace Bay Club or Royal West Indies, walking will be no problem. But, if you stay farther down near the Alexandra or Coral Gardens, you will need to get a taxi. A taxi will cost about $7 per person each way.
I highly recommend reservations if are you planning to eat here. They are closed on Mondays but open all other days. If you are going to Turks and Caicos during the slow season, you should be fine making reservations once you arrive at your resort. But, if you are going during the busy season, I would say call and make reservations at least a couple of weeks in advance. During December and January it would not hurt to make them a month out.
I also suggest that you make reservations after sunset. The restaurant is so pretty at night. Everything is lit up and it is just our favorite time to go. If you call to make reservations and they do not have anything for the night, go ahead and eat. It will still be amazing. But, if you have a choice, wait until dark so you get there when all the lights are lit up and gorgeous.
The atmosphere is one of the things that make Coco Bistro so wonderful. Do not get me wrong, the food is amazing. But, how many restaurants are set in a palm grove? We enjoy sitting on the bottom level so that we are surrounded by the palm trees. But, sitting up top on the deck is also pretty great because you can look down into the palm grove. Either way, you cannot go wrong.
Not to get all mushy and such but Coco Bistro in Turks and Caicos is a really romantic restaurant. I love eating dinner under the lit up palm trees. The sound of the palm trees swaying is also soothing. It may just be us but we feel so refreshed, relaxed, and of course, stuffed when we leave.
While eating, you may get a visitor at your table named Coco. Coco is their cat that wonders from table to table. We were once told a funny little story about Coco. We were told that Coco comes to the Coco Bistro every night except for Mondays. Why? They are closed on Mondays and Coco knows there will be no food.
The service at Coco Bistro is top notch. Many restaurants on the island are on what we consider as “island time.” You will not find that here. They are on top of their game. We have a favorite waiter at Coco Bistro. Jose always amazes us. We were once there with a group of six people. A couple of nights later, we went back. He remembered everything that we ordered – down to desserts. Oh, and he writes nothing down.
If you are dining there, maybe you will be one of the lucky ones and have him as your waiter. He is super nice and we enjoy having him.
Coco Bistro Dress Code
The dress code at Coco Bistro is pretty casual in my opinion. You will see people dressed super nice and some just pretty casual. My husband always wears khaki shorts and a nice shirt with some leather flip flops to dinner. He refuses to take pants on vacation to the beach. I cannot blame him. You will see guests that have on khakis or slacks. But, if you are like my husband and prefer shorts and a nice shirt, you will be fine and fit right in.
As for the girls, a sundress or a cute simple outfit will work. I never wear anything over the top. I’m alot like my husband when on vacation. I want to look cute, but I am not into getting all “fancified” to go eat. I want cute and comfy.
Ahh…the food. The food at Coco Bistro is amazing. I can honestly say that we have never had a bad meal here. By now, we have had nearly everything on the menu. Of course we have our favorites, but never had anything we disliked.
There are so many wonderful appetizers here. Our all-time favorite appetizer here is the lobster spring rolls. If it is lobster season and we go three times in one trip, we get lobster spring rolls three times. Other great appetizers include the spicy shrimp tacos and grilled flat bread. The last time we visited we had (I think this is right) braised short ribs on a homemade type small bun. This was a special I believe and they were awesome! The bread was honestly the best bread I have ever put in my mouth.
In addition to any appetizers you may order, you will also get their homemade bread with the olive oil and vinegar type dipping sauce. The bread is to die for. It is stuffed with herbs and is perfect. I am not a huge bread eater but I could make myself sick on this stuff.
Gosh, where do I start? All of the entrees are amazing. We have tried a variety of dishes including the Mahi, the Black Angus steak, the pork tenderloin, homemade ravioli, and shrimp curry. Each and every entrée is melt in your mouth good. I will say all entrees are over the top good but the blackened Mahi is my all-time favorite. No matter what you order I am sure you will be more than pleased.
I love desserts. When I am on vacation I order dessert every night because that is part of vacation right? Coco Bistro has some amazing desserts including their famous coconut pie (the hubby’s favorite) and crème brulee, my favorite.
Coco Bistro literally gives you a huge bowl of crème brulee. They give more than any restaurant I have ever been which may be one of the reasons I love it so much. For me, crème brulee is a great, light dessert after a heavy meal.
If you are looking for something simple, I would say try the ice cream. It is homemade and wonderful. My husband calls himself an ice cream and coffee connoisseur and says they have the best. He also loves their coffee. I am not a coffee person but he lives for going there and getting their French press coffee.
If you are dining at Coco Bistro on your birthday let them know. They will make the dessert you order all fancy. No, the dessert is not free on your birthday but the plate will look super cute when they get through with it. That counts for something, right?
The dining in Turks and Caicos is great. You pay more than the states for pretty much any restaurant you go to on the island. Coco Bistro is a fine dining restaurant so you should expect to pay more here. I can promise that it is worth it. We do not mind paying for good food, good service, and a good atmosphere.
For appetizers you can expect to pay anywhere from $15-$20 each. Entrees will run $35 +. Lastly, your desserts are as low as $3 (for ice cream) and up to $22. Again, you will not be dissatisfied when you leave here. You will agree that the money you just spent was well worth it.
This is the first time in a couple of years that we have not been at Coco Bistro on my husband’s birthday. I will admit it kind of sucks not being there this year. I thought this would be the perfect time to write about Coco Bistro since his birthday is on Sunday. He will be turning the BIG 3-0. For the past two years, he has enjoyed the coconut pie on his birthday. This year he will get to enjoy the fine cooking of myself.
Coco Bistro in Turks and Caicos is one of those restaurants that will leave you wanting more. Go once and you will be hooked just as we are. When we are at home in Mississippi we are always thinking about Turks and Caicos. Anytime we are looking for a great meal we think of Coco Bistro.
While you are dining there, you may even run into a celebrity. We sat near Paul George (the pro basketball player) the last time we visited.
Coco Bistro is the best restaurant in Turks and Caicos in our opinion. If you are planning a trip to the island, do not miss out on this great place. Coco Bistro reviews are going to be good no matter where you read them from. Take our advice – eat there. You will regret it if you don’t.
